Learn the ropes of the slipcasting over three fun classes!
+ Structure
In this course you'll learn from Bea Bellingham, our resident slipcaster (and mess master). She'll take you through the theory of slipcasting, followed by practical workshops in making your own molds and casting.
We only run slip-casting once a year, so don't miss out!
At the end of the course you'll have an understanding of:
The applications and limits of slipcasting
Creation of models and masters
Creating plaster molds and their maintenance
Casting with slip
and various forms of decoration and applique!
Not only that, but you'll have your very own single part slip casting mold ready to go, and the knowledge of how to create two part molds.
+ Lesson length
The three class course will run over four consecutive weeks, allowing for a skip week in week three to allow your molds to dry sufficiently.
Class 1, Week 1: Theory and model demonstrations
Homework - making or sourcing your own model. If you choose not to do this, we can supply you with a model.
Class 2, Week 2: Making a single part mold. Two part demonstration
Homework - Trimming and drying.
Week 3, no class - skipped for drying
Class 3, week 4: Casting. Applique demonstration.
+ *Some* experience required
Whilst you don't need to have experience in slip casting, you MUST have a working knowledge of the process of pottery. You don't need to be a master potter, but if you've never touched clay before, you're not going to have a good time.
+ Can I reschedule
Class sessions run consecutively for four weeks, with a drying week in week three (no class). Same day of the week, same time of the day. Sorry, if you can’t make it to a session, we’re not able to offer make-up classes, or switcheroos. Please ready our FAQ's for our full policies
+ How do I book
Please note: only the FIRST date of the session is listed on our booking calendar below. You only need to book in for the first date of the session and you will be automatically signed up for the entire course.
You must be 16 years or older to attend, and class sizes are strictly limited
