Masterclass Series- Go big or go sectional with Ariane Welch
GO BIG!
Keen to grow your wheel thrown ceramics?
In this class we will explore intermediate and advanced techniques to produce larger clay pieces.
If you can bring 1.5 kgs of clay to center on the wheel, reasonably confidently, this course will help you scale up.
Day 1: GO BIGGER! It's time to scale up your wheel work.
- Learn to centre bigger volumes of clay (whatever bigger means to you!) by using larger body movements
- Learn to use bats, bat mates and bat pads to secure your work and remove it intact from the wheel.
Day 2: GO SECTIONAL! Combine wheel thrown forms to create more height!
- Plan a larger piece with a simple sketch
- Combine two wheel thrown forms using slip and scoring methods to make a pedestal centerpiece bowl or your choice of project
- Learn to use tools such as heat guns and calipers.
- (Optional) Join two thrown pieces and then continue throwing and altering the joined work with dry double rib method.
