33 Ilmenite Stoneware Clay by Keane is a fave amongst throwers and handbuilders alike.

Smooth enough not to create a beautiful finish, but with enough backbone no to fall over at that crucial moment.

Fires to a grey buff with a nice ilmenite speckle at cone 8/9, with a really low absorption, making it an ideal choice for domesticware.

Before we moved to a mid-fire studio, this was our clay of choice.

Keane - "Our popular Stoneware 33 clay body with added ilmenite. A warm brown clay. Suitable for all applications of handbuilding and throwing. Firing light grey with speckles in oxidation to grey with heavy iron flecks and spots in reduction. Produces warm and varied surfaces. 

Note ** Ilmenite magnifies the iron specking by the application of glaze as it bleeds through, intensified by a reducing atmosphere."
